Spring and ‘Ume’ are Coming

It is still pretty cold here, most days at least, but Spring should come soon. In Japan, this means the blossoms will be out- first the ume (or plum blossoms), which you can see those very pretty girls posing with in the slideshow and later in April the more well-known sakura, or cherry-blossoms. The cherries in this case are much smaller than the so-called ‘American cherries,’ which we are used to, but are expensive here. Weather-willing, I should be out soon to see the ume in Mito Kairakuen park again. http://komonsan.on.arena.ne.jp/htm/e-kairaku.htm
It is a lovely occassion and if you ever have a chance, I recommend it.
