The World Cup Begins

A bunch of us had a great night afterwards last night, making dinner together and watching England’s opening game in the World Cup against Paraguy. It didn’t take long for the first goal to be scored (which left us worrying about the fate of the Paraguy captain who was blamed for the ‘own goal’), though the rest of the match was uneventful at least as far as goals went, so we could chat amongst ourselves about the sport itrself and other things. That’s part of the fun of watching a game with friends- the social side that goes along with it.

I may be biased but have to add- well done to England! We may have have just scraped by, but that just goes to show how many good teams there are are these days, with footie being so popular. It was good to see both teams doing their best despite the heat- personally I’d be taking a break after a few minutes of running around on that field. It can’t feel so good to be the losing team- Of course, though I’m glad to see the one that I support WON!
