Well, after a long trip on Asiana airlines, which involved meeting my old friend Mike and his wonderful family and eating Korean food I had never heard of before (though probably not at it’s best, being an airplane dinner), I write this sitting on a futon in the family home in Camberwell, London. And yes, it does feel good to be back! Home-cooked food is delicious- last night was Mediterranean, involving olives, grilled hallumi cheese (from goat’s milk), salad and halva (a sweet made from pressed sesame seeds and other ingredients). Also lovely to see the garden, which has evolved into a work of art in it’s own right, complete with sculpted faces and sundial.
The weather is just right- much cooler and less humid than Japan, but warm enough for a tee-shirt and shorts. Soon it will be off to see the sights of London and a play or musical or two- the main thing is just choosing from all the things going on. As has been said- a man (or woman) who is tired of London, is tired of life. Just for that extra stroke of perfection, my home has a wireless network, so writing this in comfort is no trouble at all. Photos will come soon- I took some early this morning in the garden. That’s the good thing about my jetlag- early morning starts are no problem for me for now!
