The Price of Air These Days

Now, it is pretty well known that Japan is an expensive country, and Tokyo one of the most expensive cities in the world. What is less well known is that these days you sometimes even have to pay for the air you breath here. Literally! Well, actually you don’t quite have to pay, but you have the option if you want to, of trying an ‘Oxygen Bar’.
This is all a little like aromatherapy, in that you chose the fruit or herbal infusion (or both, if you want to mix your airs) of oxygen you’d like, which bubbles through the appropriately-coloured water. I tried it with Tokyo Fox and other friends (Asif and his friend, Ash, who had just dropped into Japan that very morning and could probably do with some extra oxygen even more than me!) after a very long day in Harajuku and you know, I really did feel a bit of a ‘lift’ from it! I am now a club member and have the advantage of getting 10% off whenever I go back there, but at the price of the air there (about 850 yen for 10 minutes of all you can breath) I think I’ll just head down to my local park and do my breathing there…
