I’ve recently been back to using something that didn’t exactly work well on my mobile internet, but is now vastly improved- Stumble Upon. The days of trying to find new entertainment by googling are probably numbered- Too many adds, too much repetition and just the generally bland content that manages to have a good ‘page rank’ (bringing it to the top of the lists), means that you’ll miss out on so much by surfing the net that way. You see, hits aren’t everything- in fact they really aren’t anything. Which is where Stumble Upon comes in.
It’s the same story when you’re looking at the most popular videos on a place like You-Tube- maybe a few are good, but most make it for reasons I can only call random. So what’s the answer? StumbleVideo, of course. Here you have sites, chosen by genre, that intelligent, discerning people have actually rated and believe me their taste is a lot better than the average casual web-surfer. I’ve laughed. I’ve almost cried. I’ve certainly been amused.
This is why I’m awarding Stumble Upon one of my coveted Perfect Future awards. They’ve brought meaning to the internet. They’ve made further steps to reclaim it from those who just want to make money from it. Perhaps slightly ironically, I heard that they are up for sale. Still, even with a bit of ‘background advertising’, I can see this keeping its end of the bargain. You give your time to the internet, you come away amused, refreshed, a little more enlightened. It’s a hobby, not an addiction.
Here are some very entertaining links I’ve found there recently- and believe me, there are plenty more where these came from! Click and be surprised…
So that’s what happened to all those Florida votes for John Kerry.

Amazing video, showing our whole world in a couple of minutes. Really!
A little gross, but it’s amazing that a parasite can do this.
