Back in Vestry Mews

Now writing this from back in England. Whilst yesterday it was reasonably warm, it is now pouring with rain, punctuated by ripples of thunder. Yet, it is good to be inside, eating home-cooked food and I actually like the sound of the thunder in the background. Last night was my gourmet step-dad Denis’ homemade chicken soup with equally home-made rolls, which was the perfect after-flight meal. This morning featured fried eggs on soda-bread, alongside cooked mushrooms and tomatoes. Oh and not to forget the snack food, some of which was just handed to me – Walker’s Worchester Sauce crisps. truly a crisp without peer (in the known universe, at least).

Just to prepare, I spent much of the flight watching the cooking channel, where you could see some reinvented British puddings and an elaborate Japanese meal being cooked for what looked like an embassy’s dinner. They had one program trying to track down the origin of sticky toffee pudding, which is actually a kind of date-cake covered in that toffee sauce, then with some kind of cream. It was even better to be eating the real thing, looking out at the garden in the evening. If anyone is wondering why I could see the garden at 9:00 pm, it’s because that is when it only just starts to get dark in the British summer.

Now, with this internet connection in place, I’m pretty much at home. That’s the great thing about the net, we can really be home just about anywhere now.

So you finally got your ar*e into gear and bought a ticket!! i guess thats why you didn\’t reply to my texts! how long are you gonna be back in Blighty for? Sounds like it could be a big eating feast for you. Be careful as i remember i felt a tad ill all those years ago when i went back. The sudden change of diet on top of wanting to eat everything i\’d missed ASAP was the cause.
